그래피티 아티스트들은 익명을 전제로 정체성과도 같은 자신만의 고유한 스타일을 만드는 것을 굉장히 중시한다. 대다수의 아티스트들은 블랙북(black book)이라 불리는 스케치북에 자신만의 표현과 기교 등을 연습하며 시간을 보내며, 서로의 블랙북에 각자의 스타일이나 태그(tag)등을 그려주며 교류하는 전통을 가지고 있다. 거리에서 완성된 그림은 언젠가는 사라지지만 이를 연습한 블랙북은 중요한 기록의 수단이 된다. 치열한 고민과 수많은 교류의 흔적들이 녹아 있는 그들의 블랙북을 엿볼 수 있는 자리를 마련했다.
한국의 거리를 베이스로 활동하는 그래피티&스트릿 아티스트 58인 스케치들을 엿볼 수 있는 전시가 11월 19일부터 23일까지 5일간 마포구 신수동에 위치한 1pxOffline이라는 공간에서 열린다. 아티스트 각자 최소 5점에서 최대 20점의 중요한 스케치들을 전시를 위해 공개할 예정이다. 특히 이번 전시는 그래피티 아티스트들 스스로가 주최가 되어 만든 전시로 600점 이상의 다양한 스타일들의 작품들이 공개될 예정이며 아티스트들의 각종 스티커, 포스터 등이 전시장에서 무료로 배포된다.
허가받지 않고 그려진 거리의 골칫덩어리에서부터 광고나 영화, 드라마 등의 각종 배경을 거쳐 주요 미술관에서 주목하며 현대미술의 한 범주로 자리 잡은 그래피티, 그 이면의 세계를 넘볼 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것이다.
Graffiti artists focus on making their unique style; identity based on their anonymously . most of the artists spend their time practicing their style and expressions and exchanging each others tags or styles on a sketchbook also known as the blackbook. the blackbook doesn’t get covered up like the pieces on the street. so we have arranged an event to show blackbooks which inculdes the concerns and various exchanges of artists.
An exhibition which includes 58 artists based on korean-street opens at Mapogu-Sinsudong from November 19 to 23 for 5 days at 1pxoffline. each artists will be showing 5 to 20 pieces of sketches for the exhibition. This exhibition will be showing 600 different styles of sketches and will also be distributing their stickers and posters for free.
It would be an good chance to seek the other side of graffiti, which started off with the a big trouble of the street and evolved to being focused by the main art galleries and eventually became the main backgrounds of various advertisements, films, or dramas.
